A person who spiked treats with sleeping medication and gave them to children at a summer camp in the region has admitted sexual offences against two young males who were nine and ten years old.
The defendant was arrested after eight minors and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a young boy.
The accused was held in detention ahead of a further hearing on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.
The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court Ruben had played this game with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepchild had worries about what was going on, justifiably.
"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel stated materials including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she continued.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement once more.
She explained the man then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
